Amendments to Nicaraguan Laws on Trademarks and Patents
Amendments to Nicaraguan Laws on Trademarks and Patents
On February 10, 2020, the executive branch introduced a bill before the legislative branch to amend the Law on Trademarks as well as the Law on Patents. According to reliable parliamentary sources the approval of the amendments is imminent.
The amendments introduce new fees, increase existing fees, and require payment of the corresponding fee at the time of filing of an application for any type of procedure. In addition, the amendment of the Trademark Law introduces new requirements for some procedures and reduces certain time periods, about which we will be informing you in due course.
Due to the provision that requires the payment of the corresponding fee at the time of requesting any procedure, because of cash flow reasons, we are forced to request that, as of March 16, 2020, your instructions be followed by the corresponding payment. To do so, upon receiving your instructions, we will send you a proforma invoice, and will proceed with the procedure, once we receive your confirmation of the remittance of the corresponding bank transfer.
