Before proceeding to file a trademark application, it is advisable to perform a background search, since the report shows the registrations or trademark applications that have similarities with the trademark to be registered in Nicaragua. Depending on the result of the search report, the trademark attorney issues an opinion on the availability of the trademark.

In this way, the person interested in the registration of the trademark avoids unnecessary expenses, and even losses, if the launching to the market of a product or service under a trademark that is not available, or whose procedure presents high risks.

Background searches are carried out individually for each of the 45 classes of the international classification of goods and services according to the Nice Agreement. Also, background searches of registered trade names are possible.
