The National Engineering University (UNI) is the authority that grants “NI” TLD in Nicaragua. Since 1994 TLD’s are managed through an identity known as Network Information Center – Nicaragua (NIC-NI).

Requirements for domain name registrations are as follows:

  1. Power of Attorney, legalized by a Nicaraguan Consul (form enclosed).
  2. The National Engineering University (UNI) requires the following:
    1. Domain name (5 characters minimum, 20 characters maximum). The following restrictions apply: 

According to UNI policy, a duly established legal entity can only register a NI domain name of the following:

  • The complete legal name.

  • An acronym derived from the legal name, and easily recognized as such.

Even though UNI policy is very restrictive, in practice we have been able to register marks that belong to the applicant as domain names, by supplying UNI with evidence that the applicant in the owner of a registration/application in his home country, and that the applicant is also the owner of a registration or has filed an application in Nicaragua.

    1. Applicant’s name and address.
    2. Name, post, address, telephone, fax and electronic mail for the administrative contact.
    3. Name, post, address, telephone, fax and electronic mail for the technical contact.
    4. Name, post, address, telephone, fax and electronic mail for annual payments.
    5. Brief explanation of the purpose of the domain name to be registered.
    6. The following technical information:
  • Primary host.

  • IP DNS for the primary host.

  • Secondary host.

  • IP DNS for the secondary host.

Any other technical information deemed relevant by the applicant.
